Treasure Island in Hydepark, Chicago, is a grocery store that was nearby my apartment. Sadly, this store already had been closed a year ago. So I am going to write down some my memories at the store.
This store was only 2 blocks away from my apartment, so I went there very often. The price setting was nice, and I needed hot soup in the cold winter in Chicago. Chicken, Onion, and Chili soup were so tasty. I bought it almost every week.
And I remember that some events happened unintentionally.
The day before the first thanksgiving day, I went there after I worked at an office. I got heavily sick at that time, so I thought that have to store many foods as much as I could. In this hard situation, one young clerk spoke to me, “How about your Thanksgiving?”, I said exaggeratedly “ I cannot say good, it is the first time thanksgiving for me, but no friends, no family, and nothing to do. I worked today, and you are still working.” She replied “OK. But if you get something related to thanksgiving, it should make you fun.” She cheered me up and told me about meals that are related to thanksgiving.
If you get too busy in stores like Whole Foods, the clerks often do not afford to do conversations. But when I went local store like here, I could have something special. It is an absolutely good culture.
But there were not only good memories.
One day, when I got out of the store, One man spoke to me.
He said, “Could you give us some money to take a taxi?” And he continued “she is pregnant.” He pointed woman’s stomach.
I haven’t made your partner pregnant, you did! 😂. How did they get there? I wondered.
I pretended not to understand what they said and escaped from there.
Old people sometimes use this sort of means. I might have gotten smarter, or just older😭.
